Book body and cov­er design. The design of the cov­er is a col­lage of a loco­mo­tive (in the nov­el the loco­mo­tive is used as a sym­bol of the sovi­et rev­o­lu­tion) and “The Tem­pest of Hell” — one of the Gus­tave Doré’s gravures for the Infer­no part of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Com­e­dy:
